Overview

Using Site templates is a great way to quickly get your Sites up and running in Backstage if you’re short on time or working with existing client designs. Templates come as-is and may require customization from the Site editor.

To be able to make the most of templates, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the basics of our Layout Editor prior to getting started with templates.

Understanding how Site Templates work

Backstage currently has a limited number of templates available to help you jump into the design side of things and create consistent, brand-adherent events more quickly. Templates are organization-specific. Our dev team can enable

Once you select your template in Site creation, the Site will be added to your Organization's Project Dashboard as a brand new project with all the template pages included in that project. From there you can customize your template as needed.

If you need to make changes to the template's original unedited design for future use, you will need to contact our Dev team in our #backstage-support Slack channel. However, keep in mind that this will affect all future Sites created from the updated template.

Creating a Site from a Template

To start creating a new Site from a Template, select which organization you are making this Site for. In your organization's Project Dashboard, click the purple + Create New button.

Choose the template you would like to use from the Templates list:

Once you have clicked on the template, Backstage will begin creating your Site and will send you to your new Site's Overview Dashboard upon completion.

Please note that you cannot currently replace the design and layout of an existing site or project in your account using Site templates.

You can now open your Site's pages and flows in the Layout Editor and . You can also rename your shows and pages as needed from the Shows' properties and Page Properties.
