Getting to Route53

To manage domains in AWS, first go to the Route 53 service. This can be done either through the Search Box at the top of the page, or (if you have recently used it) by clicking Route 53 in the Recently Visited section.

Purchasing a New Domain

To purchase a new domain, enter the domain name you wish to purchase in the Register domain form and click Check.

If the domain is available, it will show a green checkmark and Available - In Chart in the status column. The domain has been automatically added to your cart

If the domain is not available, it will show a red 'x' and Unavailable in the status column. This domain is not available for purchase and you will need to choose another domain.

To purchase, scroll down to the Continue button at the bottom of the Related domain suggestions table.

Next, you will need to enter the contact details of the registrant. If you have purchased a domain on this AWS account before, these details will be prefilled for you.

Once you have filled out the contact details, or if they where prefilled for you, click the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

On the next screen, you'll be asked to confirm the contact information, as well as select whether you want this domain to automatically renew every year.

You will also need to agree to the Terms and Conditions by checking the checkbox.

Once these details are confirmed and the Terms and Conditions have been agreed to, click the Complete Order button.

Once the domain has been purchased successfully, a confirmation page will be shown. Clicking the Go To Domains button will take you to the list of pending domain purchases.

On the Pending requests page you can see a list of domains which are in the process of being registered. You can refresh this page to check on the status of your domain registration.

Registration typically takes around 15-30 minutes, but can sometimes take as long as three (3) days.

Attaching a Flux site to a Route 53 domain

On the Route 53 dashboard, click the Hosted Zones option in the lefthand sidebar.

In the Hosted zones list, find the domain you want to link to Flux. You can use the search box to filter the list of zones. Once you find the Hosted Zone that matches you domain, click the domain name to go to the Hosted Zone details page.

Hosted Zones will not appear for domains until the registration process is complete.

On the details page for the Hosted Zone for your domain, click the Create record button.

Enter the records provided by Fluxbacksta in the Create record form.
