Overview

Upload, manage, and sort your media assets all in one place with the Asset Manager in Backstage.

It can be found in the left toolbar of the Overview Dashboard and the Layout Editor. From the Asset Manager, you can upload assets, sort them by type (Images, Video, Audio), and share its URL to quickly link them in your Modules when building your Site.

Adding Assets

Once you've reached the Asset Manager, you can start adding and managing assets using the grey Upload bar at the top of the page, or the Upload Assets button above the Preview box.

The Upload bar supports clicking or dragging files directly into it. Once you've selected your asset, the Asset Manager will open an upload drawer on the bottom right corner for keeping track of their uploads and indicating upload status.

All of your Site's assets can be viewed in your Library by media type in either the List or Grid View. You can toggle the Library view from the icons above the Upload Assets button at any time. You can also multi-select assets from their list and perform bulk actions, like bulk delete.

Using Your Assets

With the availability of assets, it is possible to integrate them into modules. There are two distinct methods that can be utilized to incorporate assets into modules, with the approach being dependent on the specific module that is being used.

The Asset Picker

The majority of modules that feature image integration capabilities will include an Asset Picker in the properties panel. To utilize this feature, simply click on the asset selector window which will launch the Asset Library in a modal view. This Asset Library enables the selection of the desired image to be used within the module.

Copy Asset URL button

Certain modules may require a different approach for incorporating assets. Specifically, for these modules, it is necessary to copy the asset's URL and paste it into the appropriate field within the module's properties panel. This method enables the module to integrate with the selected asset and render it as desired.

From your Asset Manager's Library, select the asset you want to use. The asset will show in the Preview box with a Copy Asset URL button above the preview.

Click the Copy Asset URL button, then go back to the Layout Editor. Simply click on the Module you want to use, and paste the URL into the correct property. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom, and the Layout Editor should reflect your new changes.

The Asset Manager currently supports .PNG, .JPG/.JPEG, .SVG, .MP4, and audio files. For live video from a stream, see to learn how to add that to your Site.
